Marcie L. H. Merz joined the University of Pennsylvania in 1998, and since 2007 she has served Development & Alumni Relations as Executive Director of Gift Planning and Associate General Counsel. At Penn prior to 2007, she was Senior Director of Planned Giving for Penn Medicine. Before arriving at Penn, Ms. Merz served as In-House Counsel and Administrator for the jewelry manufacturer Lagos, Inc., Director of Planned Giving for the nonprofit Gemological Institute of America, and Trusts and Estates Attorney at Reed Smith Shaw & McClay. She has been a member of the continuing legal education faculty of the Pennsylvania Bar Institute and a lecturer in Penn’s Fundraising Certificate Program. She has been an invited speaker at numerous local and national venues.
Ms. Merz is a graduate of Penn’s Wharton Management Program (W.M.P. 2000). She received her law degree, cum laude, from Duquesne University School of Law (J.D. 1987), where she was Editor-in-Chief of the law review, and her bachelor’s degree from the University of North Florida (B.A. 1983).
Ms. Merz is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar, the Philadelphia Estate Planning Council, the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners, and the National Association of College and University Attorneys. She has served on the Board of the Family Planning Council of Southeastern Pennsylvania and on the Development Committee and Campaign Cabinet of Bancroft NeuroHealth.
